Actress/singer/songwriter Brooke Josephson returns with a new EP, SHOWIN’ UP, due out on February 25th. Known for her catchy pop tunes and her often tongue-in-cheek take on domestic life, SHOWIN’ UP continues Josephson’s artistic journey inspired by her experiences as a full-time mother trying to balance personal and professional lives, as so many mothers do. Although the writing and recording process began before the pandemic, Josephson put the finishing touches on the EP this year with so much of the album’s life-affirming content taking on a deeper meaning.
SHOWIN’ UP is Josephson’s first self-produced release. The EP is mixed and mastered by Grammy and Oscar-winning engineer Brendan Dekora (Paul McCartney, Foo Fighters, Anita Baker) and features such acclaimed musicians as guitarist Tim Pierce (Goo Goo Dolls, Crowded House, Phil Collins) and drummer Seth Rausch (Keith Urban, Sheryl Crow, Little Big Town). The EP was recorded at Zac Brown’s Southern Ground Studio in Nashville.
The first track/video from the EP, the uplifting “Rainbow,” is out now and can be accessed here. The decidedly celestial video and song feature a message of positive empowerment to the global community. The video also showcases Josephson’s young daughter Shira, an established children’s activist, Junior Ambassador for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (https://www.shirasstorycorner.com/). Inspired by social challenges her daughter faced, of “Rainbow,” Josephson explains, “So I wrote my daughter and anyone else struggling with self-acceptance, “You’re a Rainbow, a rainbow babe, and there’s no shame in shining when they rain on your parade…” and the rest of the song grew from there”. The early reviews for “Rainbow” have been stellar with Celebrity Zones declaring it “exceptional by any measure” and The Indie Source stating, “If you’re not already a fan of Brooke Josephson’s music, I’ve got a feeling that what she does in ‘Rainbow’ will leave you with a solid opinion of her future as a pop singer/songwriter…” “Rainbow” cover art can be accessed here.
Los Angeles-based actress/singer/songwriter and full-time mother Brooke Josephson was raised in small town Warsaw, IN. As a young adult, Josephson followed her dream to New York City to become an actress and has appeared in such high-profile shows as ABC’s long-running soap opera, “All My Children,” FOX’s hit series, “Bones” as well as the major motion pictures, “Enchanted” (Disney) and “Life As We Know It” (Warner Brothers). Leaving the business to begin her family and raise her two children, Josephson soon returned to the creative arts earning a Master’s certificate in songwriting from the esteemed Berklee School Of Music. In 2013, she released her first EP, LIVE AND LET LIVE. The SEXY N’ DOMESTICATED EP followed in 2018. Of SEXY N’ DOMESTICATED, AXS raved, “It’s a female-empowered, five song album that showcases the beautiful songstress’ knack for combining catchy grooves with hook-laden melodies and introspective storytelling.”
