DMV MUSIC FAVORITE AFI SOUL COMBINES AFRO-BEAT RHYTHMS WITH SOUL MELODIES ON MRS. NKRUMAH EP

Singer/Songwriter Afi Soul has released her third independent project, Mrs. Nkrumah. The six-track EP is inspired by the artist's experiences over the past three years, splitting time between the US and Ghana, where her husband resides. The production by Wings Armani (Ghana) and guest collaborator Tony Ade (Nigeria) melds Afro-Beats with the soul stylings that have made DC native Afi Soul a staple of the independent R&B scene.

The lead single, "My Dear," is written in the style of a letter to Afi's Ghanaian husband, who is still overseas. The lyrics' tension between longing and joy is reflected in the pairing of Afi Soul's balladeering with a swaying Caribbean-influenced track from Nigeria's Tony Ade.

The EP is a danceable tour of Afro-Beats' best trends, undergirding Afi Soul's rich vocals. It delivers a complete story, with lyrics ranging from playfully flirty to celebratory and even reverent. Emcee standouts Kojo Siego (Pop Pop) and NipSwit (Gimme Gimme) drop by for features as well.

Mrs. Nkrumah, titled after Afi Soul's new married name, is available on all major streaming platforms: Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, Amazon, Pandora, and Deezer. Summer performance dates are to be announced soon.
