In traditional witch fashion, Syd Silvair, the singer-songwriter/mystic who moonlights as a practitioner of Tarot and magic, has re-emerged from the depths of the lesser seasons with an autumnal auditory offering. A bouncy guitar riff accompanied by an engaging, warm synthesizer compliments Silvair’s breathy vocal performance in the new song, “Fugitive,” replete with a captivating chorus and funky bass line rounding out the track.
“Fugitive” is an escapist daydream about killing off your identity and stepping into a new reality. Spellbinding synth-pop with a tinge of 70’s disco carries us into a fugue state, where our past dissolves and we are free of our former selves. Fugitive is a windows-down driving song for road trips into the abyss, a soundtrack for wandering the city feeling like a newly written main character, and a fantasy of disappearing and re-emerging.
Speaking on the new song, Syd said "I wrote "Fugitive" after a friend who was in school for social work sent me an article from one of her classes about Dissociative Fugue State. It got me daydreaming about what it would be like to completely forget your identity and just re-emerge in a new place as a new person with none of your past weighing you down. I realized that the word Fugue and Fugitive come from the same root (latin 'fugare' - to flee), and so this fugitive character started forming in my mind, and the song is written from her perspective."
Syd Silvair conjures up a world where disco meets modern witchcraft, where divination occurs atop a lush palette of danceable art-pop. Tarot-reader by day, Syd is endlessly inspired by the rich visual narratives of the deck, and the ways in which their divine messages manifest in our physical realm. Each track on her debut EP, Reverie, captures the essence of a specific tarot card, weaving wisdom from the card’s meaning into the lyrics and mood of the song. Syd’s music has been played in Grey’s Anatomy, The Fosters, Bold Type, Honest Beauty and more, a testament to the cinematic and ethereal qualities that make her so unique. Syd co-wrote and collaborated with Oliver Heldens on his single “Never Look Back ft. Syd Silvair,” which has amassed 20+ million global streams.
